2008 Sacramento Sustainable Business of the Year Award
A 2008 Sacramento Sustainable Business of the Year Award will be presented to the County of Sacramento's for its County's Health and Human Services Building (OB3) public/private, joint partnership energy conservation project with Siemens Building Technologies, SMUD and SolarCity for outstanding contributions to sustainability and pollution prevention in our community. This award is being presented by the Business Environmental Resource Center to acknowledge businesses demonstrating environmental excellence and leadership in our community.
This sustainability project is located at the Branch Center complex and involved installing a 100 kW solar array and replacing the air-conditioning and lighting systems with more efficient equipment. The solar array is large enough to power more than 20 homes and the total CO2 emission reductions for the project is over 800 metric tons per year or equivalent to planting over 20,000 trees or NOT using over 90,000 gallons per year of fuel. All together these measures are projected to save the County over $100,000 in energy costs. Also we received over $300,000 in rebates from SMUD for this effort. The project was coordinated through the Internal Services Agency, Department of Facility Planning, Architecture and Real Estate (FPARE).
